A socket-welding flange is a type of flange that attaches to a pipe with a single weld on one side. The drilled hole has a burr to block the pipe. The diameter of the bore is equal to the inside diameter of the pipe.
Socket-welding stainless steel flanges are designed with raised face, flat face or RTJ face. This type of flange is applied to small pipe sizes at higher pressure levels. Socket welding flanges were originally developed for use in high-pressure small-sized pipes.

Distinguishing the surface of socket-welding flanges
Based on standards and popularity, flange surfaces are divided into 5 types and 3 types are commonly used in Vietnam. As follows:
Flat face – Flat face: Abbreviated as FF, is the surface of a flat flange designed to connect with equipment made of cast iron, stainless steel,…
Raised face – Convex face: Abbreviated as RF, is the surface of the flange designed with a small ring around the hole protruding from the surface used to connect to the sealing gasket (SPW gasket type). The height of the flange depends on the temperature and pressure of the flange.
Ring type join – Ring face: Abbreviated as RTJ, the surface of the flange is specially designed with a groove, which will have metal gaskets used to seal through the RTJ type gasket. Ring flanges are used for high pressure and high temperature applications.
